Can you remember.... the rain....

One of the most frequent Lana Del Rey's themes in her songs is nostalgia. I can recall at least 2 songs where she describes her memories that will never come back. The most interesting fact I've managed to highlight is the grammar pattern she uses for expressing this. 

I want you to listen to these songs and figure it out yourself. 

Fireworks and sparklers would light up the black skies

We'd hold on tight for our lives to each other

Nothing to lose and we'd get messed up for fun

We would dance all night, play our music loud

How is it even possible that we can use WOULD when we talk about our PAST? Yes, that is possible when we talk about:

1. Active actions we repeatedly used to do in the past to amplify the feeling of nostalgia.

And that is NOT possible when we talk about our condition in the past (with verbs: know, be, like etc).
